I HATE CLEANING.

As Zane was monopolizing the computer where the majority of my music is, I stuck in some of my older CDs. Though it was fun to be like I HAVEN'T HEARD THIS IN FOREVER, it was a little depressing to realize my Ace of Base CD is (or at least the songs on it are) old enough to get a PA driver's permit >.< but what can you do. :P

DEAR HARRY POTTER FANDOM IN GENERAL,

Go educate yourselves on the ACTUAL merits of the case of SVA/RDR vs Warner Bros/JRK before you start popping off at the mouth.

Harry Potter? Is JKR's, whether you like it or not. Being ignorant of the case won't make it suddenly yours. Wishing her dead so she'll stop talking won't make it suddenly yours (and honestly, is DISTURBING). She doesn't have to LET you play with her toys, so STFU.

P.S. A book that is over 90% JKR's words is not scholarly, it is not a guide like those on the market, etc. That is copying, the kind for which people in fandom often maul fic plagiarists for. Just so we're clear.

Alice/Mad Hatter. ALICE/MAD HATTER! And I am shipping it SO HARD. (Now that one secret on F!S makes so much more sense.)

I love randomly stumbling on things like this. I was rec'd lily-fox's Labyrinth art and while I was there, looked over a section of art categorized Hatter25. Admittedly, my first reaction was WHAT IN GOD'S NAME?! (which, dear lord, I've shipped J/S and SS/HG, both of which start canon with very young girls, even if I do not take my shipping underage, so why was it even really my first reaction?). But, still dying of curiosity at the idea of people shipping Alice and the Mad Hatter, I browsed around and discovered bri-chan's art.

And then I found the above community, and promptly fell in love with the joint work called "When Curiosity Met Insanity". I love the premise (because I absolutely adore multiverse concepts, especially ones that have a common theme holding them together) and the characterizations are vibrant and fleshed out (I'm loving the outside information given to explain bits - the mercury stuff is really fascinating!) and it's hilarious and adorable and touching and dlsfjldkfjsd JUST SO FANTASTIC. I want to write fic in this verse. I want to RP it oh so bad, omg. I want to write fanwork of FANWORK. SLIGHTLY INSANE INDEED. (Even if they do seem to welcome fanfic/art.)

bri_chan@LJ has even done a Ship Manifesto, not for the WCMI 'verse, but the Disney(parks) Alice/Mad Hatter. Oh yes. It's adorable.

Also, HP-ness. Ron and Merlin and AHAHAH I seriously typed that as Dumbledore and had to fix it.

I admit it, I squeed, then proceeded to rec the DQ Labyrinth fic section all over because a lot of my favourite authors are archived there. Labyrinth was the fandom that drew me in to online fandom. I wasn't a total internet novice but I never had reason to come close to the fringes of "fandom" until one bored night I was looking for photos for something for a message board (sharing our favourite movies or something?). That was how I found Labyrinth fic archives. Before that I had never really thought much about if people would or would not actually post the stories like I jotted down in notebooks, let alone in the mass quantities that I found.

Labyrinth was my induction into spending hours and hours reading novel-length fanfic in front of the computer, just as lost in them as I ever was in any book. It was the fandom of my first posted fanfic and it was the gateway drug to fandom as a concept beyond just one movie or book or series. Even if it's not a hundredth as active by far as HP fandom, I still love it dearly and always will. I've had a few fic ideas kicking around for my 100 fics table, but haven't finished anything yet. But, back to the secret.

At one point while reading the comments at Fandom!Secrets, I was so baffled about people not knowing there could be tons of very smutty fic out there about Labyrinth. It's got the classic fandom favourite, a young girl and an older, "villainous" man! And it's David Bowie! In tights! How could you watch this as an adult and not see all kinds of disturbingly deviant or even downright fluffy fic ideas?

But then I had to stop and realize it was through Labyrinth, in a way, that I discovered HP fandom when, to be honest, I never even considered the permutations of smut I know and even enjoy now. I read HP "offline", sure, and pondered about characters and more, but I definitely didn't immediately start shipping a favourite character with every other character possible, not until I jumped head first into HP fandom. Le gasp, I was once a total fandom noob. It was because of a Labyrinth author's LJ comm that I picked up a journal at LJ (I had 'blogged' before, but only for personal reasons on a basic HTML "journal" website of mine, not with any journal service) and almost immediately jumped in to RPG from there. But there was a time when I would have been the one going "smut of ______? are you serious?" about quite a few things.

So, anyhow, all of this made me remember what that beginning was like, which I think is a good thing, as despite myself I was becoming very ANGRY LAWN CAT about fandom things of late. Not intentionally, I don't think, but I've definitely been set in my ways and preferences to the point a lot makes me go "grr" (and not even at "noobs", just at stuff I don't like), so beyond the squee of seeing my quiet fandom on Fandom!Secrets, it was a nice trip down memory lane and a good refresher in the idea that not everyone out there sees what I see, nor do I see what they see, so I should keep a good humor about it.

Or try, at least.

Oh, and the part about entitled fans spending big bucks on their costumes, then getting pissy at small children with hand-made costumes who might win something over them. And all of it, really.

So, my apologies to JKR, I guess? :D Though, it does raise an interesting question of what people consider as canon, especially in those that ignore interviews entirely, as clarifications of content in the books are still outside the source material in the most technical sense, I suppose. I'm interested to see if this alters future fics, as I haven't seen my f-list discuss much of these interviews as of late.

So, who else missed this besides me? :P

This place is huge, and according to _odella_, full of the work of various fandom artist like hers and vikingcarrot's and so forth. Just looking quickly, I've seen buttfacemakani's with my own eyes as well as a few other pieces I recognize but couldn't recall an artist for because they're pieces from years ago.

This site is in Spanish, so like _odella_, I have no idea how this site actually works. With my limited Spanish language skills, I can only take a stab at what someone of these postings actually say, but I can tell some of them definitely don't seem to be credited.

If you have NOT given permission for your work to be reposted, you're definitely going to want to check it out.

♥ cissa_centric and _toujours__pur_ (two underscores in the middle, don't forget) now exist here as well as the original comms on LJ but I'm still setting them up and whatnot. Not backing up those LJ comms, just making sister sites for those people who permanently came to IJ.

♥ toujourspur is going to be my fic comm as a backup to my website, which I'm still setting up and also uses "toujourspur" in the name. This means fics will be seen on LJ, IJ and my website (plus my website will have other fandom-y stuff on it).

♥ My recent fic plan is to write 100 fics of whoever I want in whatever fandom I want so that's my new non-RP project. It's helping me a bit after being all crabby and depressed last night about my creative efforts. They'll all be posted to LJ first but will also show up here on my fic comm.
